Tin Cup Camping Trip
8/30/2008
Megan, Trish and I went camping near Salida - a close shot to the ATV trails of the famious Tin Cup. We put about 50 miles on the ATV on fairly rough terain. It was quite the trip. We'll be going back to this spot every year from now on.

Rockies w/ Steph & Josh
8/23/2008
Steph was Megan's roomate when she did her internship in Indiana. Steph and her husband come to visit about once a year and this year we took in our favorite team - the Rockies. The Rocks came back from behind to beat the Reds 7-6. I am glad we got to see such a good game.

Josh & Jenn Bauer's Wedding
7/26/2008
Josh and Jenn's wedding was a great time. Megan and I danced most of the night. It was the first time in a couple of years that we were able to dance so we took full advantage of it. It was a very special day. Seeing Josh and Jenn so happy was a reminder of how wonderful the marriage ceremony is. Congratulations Jenn and Josh. We wish you the very best.

Lake Michigan Fishing Trip
7/19/2008
I flew out to Green Bay to go fishing with 7 of my friends from high school (Sean McClinton, Chad Wiegand, Jason Schuelke, Brent Morenz, Andy Seiler, Steve Seiler and Chad Mittelstadt). We chartered two boats on Lake Michigan out of Sturgeon Bay (50 miles from Green Bay) to go Salmon fishing. We were 1 fish short of our limit (40 fish) and just had a blast hauling in the biggest Salmon I've seen in my life. Catching up with everyone was the best part of the trip. We all hope to make this an annual trip. I highly recommend Reel Action Charters.

Cheyenne Rodeo
7/19/2008
Megan's brother, Brian Dawson, is riding pro rodeo. He road in Cheyenne this weekend. Megan and some friends went to cheer him on. Brian's doing pretty good and is enjoying it every chance he gets.

Irish Festival
7/9/2008
Bill and Megan came to visit us and we decided to go to the Irish festival in South Denver. I've never really experienced much of Celtic music and all the traditions of the Irish but I can now say that the Irish know how to throw a party!

Bear Lake Camping Trip
7/4/2008
I drew a Colorado Elk Hunting tag in Unit 11 this year so we decided to make a weekend of going to Yampa and checking it out. I did very little scouting since Megan and I got distracted with all the territory to explore. The area was gorgeous and we plan on hitting this spot again later in the summer. This time, I better get to the business of scouting! Hunting season starts 11-Oct.

Jane & Phil's House
6/29/2008
Jane is one of Megan's old coworkers and they have a spectacular place east of Denver. They invited us out to ride ATV's and shoot targets. Any chance Megan and I get to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we try to take it. The eastern part of Colorado is must different than the western side but we get to enjoy it all. Thank God for Colorado!

Family Reunion
6/20/2008
The Smith Family reunion was in Storm Lake, Iowa this year and we had the chance to go back and see our family. Pictured directly below is my nieces Tori and Madison and to the right is Grandpa Smith with Megan and I. The highlight of the weekend was going to the new water park in Storm Lake. My sister Dawn has always been the brave one of us all but when she got to the top of the "Super Speed Slide," Dawn wavered and we had to give her a bit of encouragement to go for it. Eventually, Dawn let go and went down the slide. After that, she was the old Dawn - brave. We must of went down that slide 10 times. What a blast! I miss my family and this day was definitely a long time coming.

Twin Lakes Camping Trip
6/14/2008
Our favorite camping spot in Colorado is Twin Lakes. We try to go every year and this year we found some pretty good ATV riding trails about 500 yards from camp. We had trouble with our Blazer on the way up and broke down. The Blazer has broken down several times on trips and we had enough so traded it in. We made the most of the trip and it was still a heck of a lot of fun being with our friends. It was the first trip for our new tent and Chevy Tahoe. Both worked great!

Yard Work
5/24/2008
Yard work has become a shared hobby for Megan and I. It's always fun to see the fruit of our labor.

Pole Hill ATV Ride
5/23/2008
Our plans for the Memorial Day weekend were to go camping in Durango but we had to go to the ER the night before we left and the doctor said we had to stick around this weekend. So, since the Quad was already on its trailer, I decided to head west to Estes Park and go for a ride. The area I went to is called Pole Hill (see the power poles). It was good to get out and ride even for a couple of hours. Megan is doing fine. She had a temperature and whenever she has a temp above 100, we have to run her in since temps are the first sign of rejection and they take them seriously.

Rockies Vs. Giants
5/21/2008
Megan's Aunt (Julie) came to Denver for work and stayed with us for a couple of days so we all decided to catch a Rockies game. They played the Giants and darn near pulled one off in the bottom of the 9th.

Rockies on Global Nutrition Sciences
5/14/2008
I started with a new company on April 14th. Global Nutrition Sciences (GNS) is a small nutritional supplements company in Arvada. I am managing their e-commerce efforts. Josh Bezos (the owner) gave Megan and I great tickets to see the Rockies beat up on the Cardinals. It was a great game on a beautiful Wednesday night. Megan and I are reminded why we leave in Denver when we get opportunities like this.

Rockies w/ Video Professor
5/2/2008
My last day with Video Professor was one with mixed emotions (excited about the new opportunity but I knew I would miss the people). Paul and the rest of the team took Megan and I to the Rockies game against the Dodgers since we did not get much of a chance to have fun my last two weeks. It was great seeing everyone. I miss them.

Easter
4/8/2008
Our Neighbors (Paul & Melissa Foote) invited us over to their families Easter celebration. It's become tradition that my family come visit us on Easter but this year did not work out for them. We're hoping to see them this summer.

Tom, Megan & Jazz Getting the Mail
1/23/2008
Megan's dad (Tom) flew in this afternoon. Megan and Tom are going to watch Brian compete in the Stock Show this week. Tom, Megan and Jazz walked down together to get our mail. It doesn't sound like a big deal but after all we've gone through this year, it is. I love seeing Tom and Megan together. They have such a good relationship.

Big Thunder Draft Horse Show
1/18/2008
Megan and I joined several family and friends to watch Brian Dawson (Megan's Brother) compete in the 5th Annual Big Thunder Draft Horse Show in Loveland, Colorado. In the old days, draft horses were used to provide transportation across the country and work the land. Today, these sleek, conditioned and impeccably groomed horses compete in show rings as a reminder of a lost American tradition. The skill of the horse trainers and riders was inspiring. If you ever get the opportunity to see a draft horse competition, take it. You won't forget the gracefulness of these gentle giants.

The Stock Show
1/13/2008
Megan's friend Trish worked with her Aunt selling various leather goods to retail outfitters in the weekend before the start of the National Western Stock Show held annually in Denver. I got the honor to meet Trish's Aunt. What a nice women she is.

Kansas Pheasant Hunt
1/5/2008
I went hunting for the first time this year. Didn't take me long -- 5 days! Sometimes I wish I lived closer to a place I could hunt more often. There's nothing more enjoyable to me than getting out in the country with family and friends. I am fortunate to have some good friends with equal passions for the outdoors. Sean is pictured with me below. Yes, those are beers in our hands but it was after a hunt.

Megan Tearing it Up
1/1/2008
We finally got a helmet for Megan so she could ride the ATV. She's not ready to rip it up yet but she rides around conservatively with a huge smile on her face the whole time. Megan loves doing things most girls cringe at. I love that about her. She's never afraid to jump in and go for it. She has a passion for life and it shows in big things like surviving a kidney transplant and little things like tearing around on the ATV.
